Skiing Posts Strong Finish at NCAA Regional Championships

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Harvard skiing team posted a strong showing at the NCAA Regional Championships held at the St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid, New York this weekend. Senior Akeo Maifeld-Carucci and sophomore Rachel Hampton continued their superb seasons with 14-place finishes in the 20K and 15K classic races, respectively.

Maifeld-Carucci posted a time of 1:02.04, while Hampton stopped the clock in 55:47.3. The men and women both placed four athletes in the top 40. On the men's side, sophomore Ian Meyer finished one minute after Maifeld-Carucci to take 22nd overall. Two minutes later, Soren Anderson crossed to place 33rd. On the women's side, Annie Harvieux clocked a time of 57:08.0 to take 21st. Sophomore Maile Sapp was 44 seconds behind to finish 25th. Junior Hanna Barnes rounded out the top-four Crimson athletes with a 35th-place finish.

Harvieux finished first for the Crimson in the 5K, 1.6 seconds after the 14th-place finisher to take No. 17. Hampton was 33rd overall with a  time of 17:32.3.

Maifeld-Carucci clocked a time of 30:03.2 to finish 22nd, 20 seconds ahead of Ian Meyer, who placed No. 26.

Alpine skier Kelly Steeves continued to make a splash in her first season, placing 21st in the giant slalom and 32nd in the slalom. On the men's side, Pieter Weemaes posted a finish of 37 in the slalom.
