CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Led by senior captain Akeo Maifeld-Carucci, the Harvard skiing team wrapped its first competition over the weekend, finishing ninth at the Bates Carnival in Maine. Maifeld-Carucci grabbed two top-10 finishes on the weekend, placing second in the 10K FS (24:03.1) and ninth in the 20K (1:00:15.6).
Maifeld-Carucci becomes the first nordic skiier to earn a spot on the podium since Anna McLoon '04.
Green also posted a solid showing in the 20K, clocking a time of 1:03:18.3 to place 36th. Sophomore Devlin Shea posted a finish of 1:07.51.4.
On the women's side, sophomore Rachel Hampton stood out with a time of 51:49.8 in the women's 15K, just two minutes behind the winner to rank No. 15. Classmate Maile Sapp clocked a time of 53:33.5 to place 34th and junior Annie Harvieux was just behind (55:09.8).
In the 5K freestyle, Harvieux placed 18th with a personal-best time of 15:05.4, while Hampton crossed nine seconds later to sit 20th. Senior Emily Rogers posted a time of 15:56.5 to finish 41st.
With a time of 2:25.03, Samantha Udolf ranked 50th in the giant slalom.
The Crimson will be back in action next weekend at the UVM Carnival.
