Softball Falls To Host Hawaii, 7-0, at Rainbow Wahine Classic

HONOLULU, HI – The Harvard softball team (7-5) fell 7-0 to host Hawaii in its second game of the Rainbow Wahine Classic late yesterday (March 15). Junior outfielder Maddy Kaplan extended her hitting streak to four games, recording one of four Crimson hits on the night, as Hawaii starter Brittany Hitchcock pitched a complete game, and struck out 10 batters.

Harvard starting pitcher Kathleen Duncan (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the bottom of the third, allowing three runs on four hits before Taylor Cabe entered the game in relief with two outs in the frame.

Trailing 3-0, the Crimson put runners on first and second with one out in the top of the fourth inning after singles by Kaplan and Elizabeth Shively. But Hitchcock retired the next two Harvard batters.

Then Hawaii tacked on four more runs in the next three innings to add insurance to its lead and seal the win.

Harvard will take on Marist and Purdue later today at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in a double-header at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
