Rachel Brown leads the league in strikeouts and opposing
batting average (Harvard Athletic Communications).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior pitcher and co-captain Rachel Brown of the Harvard softball team has earned her fifth Ivy League Pitcher of the Week nod, the league announced Tuesday. Brown was also named the Harvard COOP Athlete of the Week for the week of April 23.
The senior allowed one earned run and struck out 25 batters in 21 innings of work, helping the Crimson clinch its third straight Ivy League North Division title. After surrendering a first-inning run Friday in the opener of Harvard's weekend series against the Brown Bears, she did not allow a hit over the final nine innings of a 2-1, extra-inning win. She followed that effort with a two-hit shutout of the Bears Saturday. Brown also struck out six Boston University Terriers in four innings of midweek work and posted an earned-run average of 0.33 for the week.
Brown holds the Ivy League lead in opposing batting average (.150) and strikeouts (196) and ranks second in earned-run average (1.44) and wins (16). Brown and the Crimson will travel to Worcester, Mass., for a single game against Holy Cross Thursday, before squaring off with Dartmouth a four-game series Saturday and Sunday.
