CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After providing the Crimson with a win, a save and 17 strikeouts and propelling it to the Ivy League crown, Rachel Brown has been selected as the COOP Athlete of the Week for May 9, 2011.
In Game 1 of the Ivy League Softball Championship Series Brown tallied 12 strikeouts while only allowing three hits in complete game, 5-0, shutout of the Big Red. Brown tallied five of her strikeouts in the first two innings, taking down the side in the top of the second. Pitching in a relief role in Game 2 on Sunday, Brown faced 10 batters and struck out five, including three in the top of the sixth. The save gave the Crimson the its first Ivy League title since 2007 and the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
Brown, who currently holds a 21-6 record with two saves, has a 1.90 earned run average, while accruing 11.51 strikeouts per game. In 177 innings pitched, Brown has recorded 291 stikeouts.
