Seniors Lead Softball In Pair of Doubleheaders Against Brown

Storyline
Harvard kicks off Ivy North Division play with two
doubleheaders against Brown. Originally scheduled for Saturday and
Sunday, the series has been pushed back to Sunday and Monday due to
weather.
Last Time Out
The Crimson stepped out of conference for a midweek tie
with local rival Boston College, dropping a pair of close game the
Eagles, 5-4 and 6-4. Whitney Shaw was 2 for 3 in game one with
three RBI on a three-run homer and Ellen Macadam collected three
hits in the game. Jessica Pledger registered two hits in the second
game while Shaw notched another RBI. Mari Zumbro pitched three
innings of relief, keeping the Eagles scoreless in the late
innings.
Scouting the Bears
Despite a tough start in conference play, the Bears are
right around the .500 mark in their overall schedule. In their last
time out, the Bears split with local foe Providence, taking game
one, 11-3, in five innings and falling, 4-0, in game two. Catcher
Amanda Asay drove in five runs in game one and Kate Strobel added
another three. Kristie Chin collected her eighth win in the circle
for Brown. Asay picked up two more hits in the loss in game two
while Liz DiMascio took the loss in the circle despite a
five-strikeout performance.
League Honors
Ellen Macadam was named ECAC and Ivy League Player of the
Week for April 13 after going 12 of 21 from the plate with seven
RBI, seven doubles and 15 assists. Rachel Brown earned Ivy Pitcher
of the Week honors for the second time this season after pitching
her second no-hitter of the season in a 3-0 win over
Columbia.
Senior Ceremony
The Harvard softball team will recognize its six seniors
at Sunday’s contests against the Bears. Margaux Black,
Jennifer Francis, Stephanie Krysiak, Jessica Pledger, Dana Roberts
and Melissa Schellberg will be honored for their years as members
of the team.
On Deck
After the doubleheaders with Brown, the Crimson will travel to
Rhode Island for a makeup doubleheader against URI April 20. Game
one is slated to start at 3 p.m.
