HAMDEN, Conn. – Whitney Shaw parked her first homerun of the season in the third inning but the Crimson was unable to plate any more runs as the Harvard Softball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon. Harvard slips to 4-14 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 11-13.
Harvard broke through in the top of the second inning as Kassy Shiotani knocked in Jessica Ferri with an RBI groundout to short. The hosts evened the score at one apiece in the bottom half of the inning but Harvard recaptured the lead in the third as Shaw drove a homerun to leftfield. The Bobcats plated two runs in the bottom of the third and the 3-2 lead held up through the final four innings.
Ferri, Rachel Brown and Margaux Black split pitching duties for the Crimson with Brown picking up four strikeouts in two innings of work. Melissa Schellberg, Jane Alexander and Jennifer Francis added hits for the Crimson in the loss. Heather Schwartzburg picked up the win for Quinnipiac, striking out nine in four innings of relief.
Harvard wraps up its weekend with two games at Fairfield Sunday.
