Softball Slips Against Kansas, 9-1; No. 20 Texas A&M, 10-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In the second day of the San Diego Classic II, the Harvard softball team dropped decisions to Kansas, 9-1 in five innings, and No. 20 Texas A&M, 10-1 in six innings, on the campus of San Diego State University.
The Crimson fell behind early in the first game of the day as the Jayhawks posted four runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding early lead. The Crimson got on the board in the third inning as Whitney Shaw doubled to right field and scored on a Jane Alexander RBI double later in the inning. Mariah Montgomery tagged a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third to put Kansas up 7-1 and the Jayhawks plated two more runs in the fifth to clinch the 9-1 final.
In game two, pitcher Rachel Brown held the No. 20 Aggies scoreless through four innings but Texas A&M broke through with six runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to clinch the 10-1 final. Melissa Schellberg drove in the lone Crimson run in the bottom of the sixth, plating Ellen Macadam on an RBI single.
Harvard wraps up its spring break trip with games against Long Beach State and San Diego State Saturday at noon and 5 p.m., respectively.
