RIVERSIDE, Calif. – An Ellen Macadam home run gave
Harvard an early 1-0 lead but the hosts came on strong in the
middle innings as UC Riverside downed the Crimson, 11-1 in five
innings, to wrap up the Amy S. Harrison Classic. Harvard moves to
4-5 on the season while the Highlanders improve to 10-14 on the
year.
Macadam, the first batter of the game, bashed a homerun down the leftfield line for Harvard’s first long ball of the season to give the guests a 1-0 lead after one. Highlander freshman Alexis Villamor drove in two runs with a double in the second inning and the hosts went on to put up five runs in the third and four more in the fourth to seal the 11-1 final.
Harvard pitcher Jessica Ferri collected the Crimson’s only other hit and took the loss on the mound.
The Crimson continues its spring break trip with two games March 16 against Loyola Marymount and Bucknell at 3 and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
