CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard rookie Joey Colton has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the CWPA announced Tuesday.
Colton netted 13 goals, 10 assists and seven steals at the Rodeo Tournament last weekend in Santa Clara, Calif., to help Harvard finish with a 3-2 record. The freshman registered two or more goals in each of the Crimson's five games including three hat tricks.
In the opener, Colton buried three goals and registered an assist as the Crimson fell to No. 10 Concordia, 9-8. The rookie had two goals, three assists and a steal in the 12-9 loss to No. 16 host Santa Clara before finding the back of the net twice to lift the Crimson past No. 17 Cal Baptist. On day three of the tournament, Colton finished with six goals, five assists and five steals as the Crimson notched two wins against No. 11 UC Davis and Fresno Pacific.
The Garden Grove, Calif., native previously won the award Sept. 11 and Oct. 16. Colton has dished out 44 helpers to lead the team and ranks second on the squad with 38 goals and 33 steals.
Harvard is 13-10 overall and 8-1 in conference play. The Crimson welcomes CWPA rivals St. Francis, Iona and Fordham to Blodgett Pool this weekend.
