Men’s Water Polo Welcomes Four Newcomers in Class of 2017

Harvard adds four freshmen to a roster that returns 15 players from last season (Justine Agaloos).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ted Minnis, the head coach of the Harvard men's water polo team, has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the 2013 season: Joseph Colton, Alexander Eckstein, Daniel Stevens, and Viktor Wrobel. The class consists of three student-athletes from California, while one calls New York home. 

"This is a very talented class of young men that will contribute in the water and in the Harvard community right away," Minnis said. "They have proven that not only will they excel in the pool, but that they are just a dedicated to excellence in the classroom. I am excited to work with them over the next four years."

The incoming freshmen join Harvard after it posted a 15-19 overall record in 2012, giving the Crimson its most victories since 2002, and placed third in the CWPA Northern Division Championship. With the third-place finish, the Crimson earned a berth into the CWPA Eastern Division Championships and finished seventh for the second consecutive season. Harvard also returns 15 players and 96.7 percent of its offense from last season.

Selected as captain as a senior and earned four varsity letters in water polo … Two-time Hotchkiss Water Polo award recipient … Also lettered in swimming and wrestling … Latin Prize recipient as a junior … Two-time Greek Prize recipient … Four-year Honor Roll student.

Daniel Stevens, Newport Beach, Calif., Newport Harbor
Selected as captain as a senior and earned three varsity letters in water polo … Scored 139 goals, handed out 35 assists and recorded 87 steals throughout his high school career … CA-HI All-American as a junior … All-Sunset League Division 1 Player of the Year as a senior … Two-time All-CIF-SS Division 1 first team selection … Two-time LA84 Foundation All CIF-SS Division 1 first-team selection … Two-time All-Sunset League Division 1 first-team pick … All-CIF-SS Division 1 third-team choice as a sophomore … Team MVP as a senior … Team Defensive MVP in 2011 … Named Most Improved as a sophomore … USA Water Polo Junior National Team member since 2012 … Helped USA to a silver medal at the XVII U.A.N.A.
