Katzer Leads Men's Water Polo to CWPA Northern Divison Semifinal

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Mike Katzer scored three times, including a pair of goals in overtime, to help the Crimson down MIT, 11-10, in the first round of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division Championship Saturday. Harvard moved to the tournament's semifinal where it will face Brown at 6 p.m. tonight at MIT.

The Crimson qualified for the CWPA Eastern Championship for the first time since 2007 with the win, as they are guaranteed at least a fourth-place finish at the tournament. Harvard will host the CWPA Easterns at Blodgett Pool Nov. 18-20.

Four Harvard players finished with multiple goals against the Engineers, led by Katzer's three. Evan Ramsey, Luka Babic and Max Murphy netted two goals apiece.

Ramsey also provided four steals on the defensive end and Babic and Murphy had two takeaways for the Crimson.

Alexandre Popp made 13 saves in goal for Harvard, including multiple impressive stops in the stretch run to help secure the victory.

The Crimson will play in tonight's semifinal before taking on either No. 1 seed St. Francis or No. 4 seed Iona Sunday. A win tonight would put Harvard in the championship game at noon, while a loss would move the No. 6 seed to the third-place game at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
