Harvard Wins on Final Day of ECAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's water polo team ended the weekend on a high note, scoring a season-high 19 goals en route to a 19-3 win over Washington & Jefferson in the 11th place game of the ECAC Championships at Blodgett Pool.
The Crimson jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back. With a lead that grew to as much as 17-3 at the end of the third period, Harvard turned its focus to defense, resulting in 18 steals in the game. Harvard has never lost to Washington & Jefferson, as the Crimson now leads the all-time series, 4-0.
Senior Alex Thompson notched five goals and three takeaways and senior co-captain Bret Voith had two scores, three assists and three steals of his own. Other players seeing some major playing time included sophomore Antone Martinho, who notched a goal, an assist and two takeaways, and freshman Neal O'Hara, who put a score on the board for Harvard and had three helpers and two steals.
Harvard will be back at Blodgett Pool starting at 1 p.m. Saturday to open up Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division play with a doubleheader against Fordham and Iona.
