Mens Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match to Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Harvard men's volleyball team fell to Endicott, 3-2, Friday evening in Beverly, Mass. The Crimson won the thrilling first set, 47-45, but fell in the next two before tying the match in the fourth set. Harvard dropped the final set, 15-8, for the Gulls to pick up the match win.
Senior Erik Kuld led three Crimson players with double-digit kills, with 18. Sophomore Matt Jones recorded 15 kills, and sophomore Nicola Ivica added 12.
In the first set, both teams battled it out as Harvard (0-3) jumped out to a 22-16 lead. The Crimson gave up five unanswered points to the Gulls, as they worked their way back into the close set. Neither team was able to gain more than a one-point lead until the match back-to-back attacking errors by Endicott (5-2) gave Harvard the winning points.
Harvard fell in the second and third sets, 30-19 and 30-21, respectively, before claiming the fourth set, 30-23.
In the fifth set, Harvard gave up five unanswered points, and Endicott jumped out to an insurmountable lead. The teams traded points until the Gulls won on a kill by A.J. Witkofsky, his 31st of the night.
Harvard hosts Baruch Thursday evening in its home opener at the Malkin Athletic Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
