HANHOVER, N.H.- The Harvard men's tennis team defeated host Dartmouth, 4-2, Saturday night, to advance to the championship round of the ECAC tournament. The No. 1 seeded Crimson improved to 9-1 on the year with the victory, and will play the No. 6 seeded Brown for the ECAC title.
For the second straight match during the tournament Harvard opened up earning the doubles point, getting outstanding play out of its doubles squads. Sophomore Casey MacMaster along with senior Alistair Felton took care of business in the No. 1 spot defeating Michael Laser and Alex de Chatellus, 8-5. Freshman Denis Nguyen and junior Andy Nguyen followed suit in the No. 2 position, taking down Brandon Debot and Cameron Ghorbani 8-3. In the No. 3 spot sophomore Christo Schultz and freshman Alex Steinroeder chipped in with a win of their own defeating Xander Centenari and Chris Ho, 8-4.
Senior Jon Peralman continued the Crimson momentum downing his foe, Centenari 6-4, 6-0. Dartmouth fought back registering two wins of its own as Laser defeated Denis Nguyen, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 2 spot, while Ghorbani took down Steinroeder, 6-5, 7-4, in the No. 3 position. The Crimson wouldn't relent however as Schultz escaped with the victory in the No. 4 spot, defeating Chris Kipouras, 6-3,7-6, (14-12) and freshman Shaun Chaudhuri, remained undefeated in singles matches during dual contests, defeating Ho in the No. 6 position, 6-7, 4-6, 6-1.
Harvard will now take on the Brown in the ECAC championship round on Sunday afternoon, the match is slated for 2:30 p.m.
