SAN DIEGO – The Harvard men's tennis team got a jump-start Friday against East Tennessee State by winning the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead, but things were different in the singles competition, as the Buccaneers won five of six matches for a 5-2 win Thursday at the Hilton Mission Valley Spring Classic.

Freshman Casey MacMaster and senior Aba Omodele-Lucien took the victory for the Crimson (7-7) at the No. 1 doubles spot over the Buccaneers' Grega Terz and Charles Bottoni, 8-4. Junior Jonathan Pearlman and sophomore Joshua Tchan defeated the duo of Robin Akser and Juan Ramirez, 8-6, at the No. 3 slot.

Tchan was the only member of the Crimson to earn a victory in singles, taking a three-set, 6-1, 5-7, 10-6, decision over Jeremy Bonnevalle at the No. 6 position.

Harvard will take on Alabama-Birmingham in the consolation bracket at 10 a.m. Friday.
