Five Crimson Compete at ITA Northeast Regional Tournament

Hanover, N.H.- Five members of the Harvard
men’s tennis team competed in the ITA Northeast Regional
tournament Oct. 16-18. The Crimson earned seventeen victories and
one title over the weekend. The unseeded duo of Alistair Felton and
freshman Andy Nguyen took the doubles title by defeating the
third-seeded pair, Brown's Charlie Posner and Kendrick Au, 9-7 in
the finals. On their way to the title, Felton and Nguyen defeated
the second, third and eighth-seeded pairs. The Crimson's other
doubles team of junior Alexei Chijoff-Evans and freshman Christo
Schultz were seeded seventh but fell in the semifinals to Au and
Posner, 8-6.
Fifth-seeded Chijoff-Evans advanced the furthest out of the five
in singles play. He bowed out in the quarterfinals to fourth-seeded
Sven Vloedgraven from Binghamton. Chijoff-Evans took the first set
6-3 but dropped the second and third sets 6-4 and 6-2,
respectively. On his way to the quarters, he defeated three
opponents; two were seeded in the tournament.
Rookie Joshua Tchan reached the round of 16 by defeating
seventh-seeded Jonathan Jaklitsch of Cornell, 6-3, 6-4. Tchan fell
in the round of 16 to Loic Sessagesimi of Marist 6-3, 6-0. Nguyen,
Schultz and Felton each picked up a win in the round of 64 but none
could advance past the round of 32.
Harvard returns to action as it hosts the Harvard Halloween
Tournament at the Beren Tennis Center, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
