Three Top-10 Finishes Highlight Day 1 of Texas Invite for Men's Swimming and Diving
AUSTIN, Texas -- Up against some of the stiffest competition, the Harvard men's swimming and diving team found success early in the pool, eventually claiming three-top-10 finishes on the afternoon.
The Crimson's best freestyle relay quartet of Griffin Schumacher, Danny Crigler and co-captains Oliver Lee and Chris Satterthwaite was on a mission on Thursday, swimming the 200 freestyle relay event in a near-school record 1:18.30. The four Crimson were .24 seconds off their own mark set last season and together now own the top-3 200 freestyle relay times in program history.
Schumacher and Lee soldiered on, finishing ninth and 12th, respectively in the 50 free later on in the afternoon. Schumacher clocked in at 19.80, while Lee took an even 20.00 to complete the race.
Freshmen Jack Manchester and Eric Rhonda, along with sophomore Jacob Luna and senior Satterthwaite gave Harvard its third top-10 finish of the afternoon with their ninth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:15.86).
Luna also placed 15th in the 200 IM (1:49.03) an 17th in the 100 butterfly, swimming a 48.07 finals race. Freshman Aly Abdel Khalik did well for the Crimson, too, clocking in at 4:26.07 in the lengthy 500 freestyle race to finish in 20th place.
The Crimson hits the pool tomorrow for Day 2 in Austin starting at 11 a.m.
