CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard COOP Athlete of the Week for Dec. 12 is Chuck Katis of the Harvard men’s swimming team. Katis set three pool records at Columbia’s Uris Pool to help Harvard defeat the Lions, 206-92, in a dual meet Dec. 10.
The freshman led 1-2-3 finishes for the Crimson in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.18 seconds) and 200 breast (2:00.76) in his first two record-setting performances of the day. Katis secured Harvard's final victory of the day in the 200 individual medley, again setting a pool record and earning a new personal-best time of 1:48.56 in the process.
The Falls Church, Va., native was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay team along with Jack Pretto, Niall Janney and Chris Satterthwaite.
The win over Columbia came in Harvard's last meet of the calendar year as the Crimson will continue the 2011-12 campaign against Connecticut in San Juan, Puerto Rico Jan. 12.
