CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The top-ranked men's squash team powered past No. 8 Penn, 9-0, in the opening round of the Potter Cup inside the friendly confines of the Murr Center Friday afternoon. The Crimson will face the winner of No. 4 St. Lawrence versus No. 5 Franklin & Marshall in the semifinals.
The Crimson dominated its first game of the weekend as Harvard swept all nine matches as the squad recorded its 10th shutout of the season.
Ali Farag downed Tyler Odell in the top position, while Brandon McLaughlin and Dylan Murray each picked up wins in the second and third spots respectively. Gary Power, Nigel Koh and Bryan Koh were strong in spots four through six as each posted, 3-0, wins over their opponents. Nick Hopcroft, Tom Mullaney and Tyler Olson rounded out the Crimson lineup with three wins in the bottom half of the ladder.
No. 2 Trinity also advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3 victory over No. 7 Cornell. Harvard will return to the courts tomorrow at noon to take on the winner of No. 4 St. Lawrence and No. 5 Franklin & Marshall in the semifinals. The Saints and Diplomats will face off at 5:00 p.m.
