Junot Announces Resignation as Men’s Soccer Head Coach

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Carl Junot, the Virginia B. and James O. Welch ’52 Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Soccer, announced his resignation Tuesday. Junot completed his third season at the helm of the Crimson soccer program in 2012.

“Carl leaves a strong legacy of community service through our spring game vs. Haiti, and an unquestioned commitment to the student-athlete experience,” said Nichols Family Director of Athletics, Bob Scalise. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Junot helped the Crimson secure a number of notable victories during his tenure as head coach, including a 2-1 win over No. 13 Stanford in the first ever night game held at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium Sept. 4, 2010. From 2010-12, eight student-athletes secured All-Ivy League accolades, including three first-team nods. Junot also was instrumental in having Harvard host three international exhibitions for charity for Partners in Health, as the Crimson took on Haiti in 2011 and Haiti and Cape Verde in 2012.

Prior to his stint as head coach, Junot worked from 2008-10 as an assistant coach for the Crimson, helping Harvard to a 26-10-1 overall record, the 2009 Ivy League championship and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. Three players, Andre Akpan ’09, Kwaku Nyamekye ’10 and Michael Fucito ’08-09, were selected in the Major League Soccer draft during his time as an assistant with the Crimson.

Junot also held coaching positions at Tufts (head coach) and New Mexico (assistant coach). A 2001 graduate of Furman, Junot helped the Paladins to three Southern Conference Championships and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight during his junior season.

A national search is underway for Junot’s successor.
