Akpan Garners College Soccer News All-America Status

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After being honored as a
finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy,
presented to the nation’s top soccer player, senior Andre
Akpan continues to receive honors, as he was named to the
College Soccer News All-America first team, the
publication announced Monday.
Akpan, who was also selected to the National Soccer Coaches
Association All-America and All-Northeast Region first team, paced
Harvard and the Ivy League with 30 points and 12 goals during his
senior season. A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Akpan was named
the Ivy League Player of the Year and earned his fourth selection
to the All-Ivy League first team. He was also a nominee for Soccer
News Net National Player of the Year and was tabbed to the Top
Drawer Soccer National Team of the Year, garnering a spot on the
second team.
Harvard’s all-time leading scorer with 127 points, Akpan
also stands first in school history with 33 assists and is tied
with Chris Ohiri ’64 for first with 47 goals. A co-captain of
the Crimson this fall, Akpan tallied four game-winning goals and
ranked 17th in the nation with 1.58 points per game. Akpan also
earned accolades for his work in the classroom, having been named
to the Academic All-Ivy League team this fall.
