CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior forward Andre Akpan of the ninth-ranked Harvard men’s soccer team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Akpan, who leads Harvard with 21 points on eight goals and five assists, tallied one of the biggest goals of the season for Saturday in the team's 1-0 win over No. 15 Brown. Early in the second half, Akpan accepted a pass in the box from teammate Brian Rogers, before spinning around and firing a shot that hit the back of the net for the game's only score. With the win, Harvard remains unbeaten in Ivy League play at 2-0-1 and is now 5-0 at home this season.
In addition, Akpan now trails Chris Ohiri '64 by four goals for Harvard's all-time career record. Akpan has 43 tallied to his credit. Akpan and the Crimson visit Providence Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
