Akpan Tabbed to College Soccer News Preseason All-America Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior forward Andre Akpan of
the Harvard men’s soccer team has been named to the
College Soccer News All-America first team for the second
consecutive season, the publication announced this week. Akpan is
one of two Ivy League players honored on the preseason All-America
team.
A two-time semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s
Hermann Trophy, Akpan is Harvard’s all-time leading scorer
with 97 points on 35 goals and 27 assists. During the 2008 season,
Akpan amassed an Ivy League-best 26 points on 10 scores and six
helpers.
For his effort last fall, the native of Grand Prairie, Texas, was
honored on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
All-America first team for the second time. He is a three-time
NSCAA All-Northeast Region first-team honoree and has garnered
three unanimous All-Ivy League first-team nods over his career.
Akpan, who has been playing with the Chicago Fire Players
Development team this summer, will serve as co-captain of the
Crimson along with senior midfielder Brian Grimm during the 2009
season.
