Head coach of men’s lacrosse at Harvard John Tillman announced the hiring of Kevin Warne as an assistant coach Oct. 4, 2007.


In his first season with the Crimson program in 2008, the team had the most All-Ivy League selections (three) since 1999 and was ranked in both major polls during the year. 

During the 2009 campaign, Harvard's defense ranked third in the nation in goals allowed per game and the team won eight games for the first time since 2002.  The Crimson earned five All-Ivy picks and was ranked as high as No. 11 in the nation in the USILA poll.  Harvard allowed 10 or more goals in only two games and upset No. 5 Duke to open the season.

Warne came to Harvard from the University of Maryland – Baltimore County where he most recently served as associate head coach for the Retrievers since 2004. Warne served as defensive coordinator for a UMBC team that advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round in 2007. He also served as the program’s main recruiting coordinator as well as program liaison to the equipment and strength & conditioning departments.

Prior to his position at UMBC, Warne served as an assistant coach from 2001-04 at the University of Delaware. He worked with mainly with the offensive unit while presenting scouting reports and assisting in organization of practices and game strategies.

A 2000 graduate of Hofstra University, Warne majored in psychology while playing for the Pride from 1995-99. He was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time All-America East Conference honoree. In a senior, he was also named to the honorable mention list for the USILA All-America team after guiding Hofstra to its third league championship and postseason berth.

While finishing his degree at Hofstra, Warne served as an assistant coach at nearby Plainview-Old Bethpage High School. He got his start at the collegiate coaching level in 2000 at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy before moving on to Delaware.
