Jim Burke enters his fifth year as men's golf coach at Harvard for the 2009-10 season.
Burke came to Harvard after four years of coaching at MIT where
he was named NEWMAC coach of the year in 2002 and 2003.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Harvard, Burke is
the golf course manager at the Leo J. Martin Golf Club in Weston,
Mass. In that role, Burke oversees the daily operation of the
course, including personnel, memberships, and financial
matters.
Burke brings personal experience as a student athlete to his
coaching having been a four-year letterman for the University of
Maine's hockey team. After graduation and prior to making golf his
living Burke played professionally in the Hartford Whalers
organization.
Burke remains one of the area's top players. He was one of two
players two place in the New England PGA Deutche Bank Qualifier in
July 2006, giving him a spot in the Deutsche Bank Championship,
where he competed against Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, anong other
top pros.
Burke worked as an Assistant Golf Pro at Thunderbird C.C. in
Rancho Mirages, Calif. under Don Callahan -- long-time Head
Professional at The Country Club in Brookline which is Harvard's
home course.
He currently resides in Newton with his wife Mary Beth and sons
Seamus and Finnegan.
