Men's Golf Defeats Cornell, 6-1, In Match Play

By Greg Shuman ‘10

On Saturday, March 20, the men's golf team ventured to Shingle Creek golf club to participate in a match against Cornell. The 7,200+ yard Shingle Creek golf course featured an open layout with water on 16 of the 18 holes. The teams were greeted by the best weather of the trip with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70's. While the Crimson had a week to fine tune their games and prepare for the match, the Big Red were on their first day of spring break. The hard work and preparation for the spring season seemed to pay off for the Harvard guys in the match play format; the Crimson won 6 of 7 matches. Although the format was match play, Danny Mayer ’10 put together a solid round of 1-under par 71. The Saturday match was a great conclusion to a week of hard work and commitment by the men's golf team.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the friends of Harvard Golf, without whom this trip would not be possible. In addition, we’d also like to express a huge thanks to Harvard’s director of golf Fred Schernecker who set up a wonderful and fun week of golf for both the men's and women's teams; his help and efforts are much appreciated by everyone in the program.
