CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No.3 men's fencing team swept all three Boston area opponents, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis to claim the 2012 fencing Beanpot title, Tuesday night at the Malkin Athletic Center. The men's foil division led the way for the Crimson only losing three matches the entire tournament.
In the first match against MIT, the Crimson got strong play from its saber and foil fields as the two weapon classes went a combined 16-2. Harvard sparred to 5-4 with the epee, defeating MIT, 21-6. Next up for the Crimson was the Boston College Eagles. Both the saber and epee went 6-3 against BC while the Foil group tallied a record of 8-1. Harvard went on to down the Eagles, 20-7. The Crimson finished the evening against the Brandeis Judges. The foil group took care of business yet again going 8-1 against its foes. The saber and epee divisions followed suit fencing to identical 7-2 records and a 22-5 victory over the Judges.
Harvard will now prepare for the NCAA regionals which will be hosted by Boston College on March 11, 2012. Check back later for individual records and results.
