Fencing Sweeps at Beanpot, Captures Both Titles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Harvard men's and women's fencing teams posted undefeated records at the 2010 Beanpot, hosted by MIT. Both squads captured the title for the third year in a row. Boston College and Brandeis also participated along with MIT and the Crimson.

The Harvard men (12-6) cruised past Boston College 19-8, sweeping all three weapons. The Crimson once again won all three weapons to defeat Brandeis, 23-4. Harvard posted a 9-0 score in the sabreand 7-2 scores in the foil and epee. The men picked up their third win of the night with an 18-9 decision over MIT. The Engineers took the foil the narrowest of margins, 5-4. The Crimson earned 7-2 wins in the foil and sabre to squeeze past the host to take the crown. Freshman Thomas Kolasa turned in an 8-0 performance on the day to lead the way.

On the women's side, Harvard took all nine weapons on the night. The Crimson downed the Eagles, 19-8. Harvard glided to the title with a 20-7 win over Brandeis and a 21-6 victory over MIT. Sophomore co-captain Noam Mills went undefeated at the Beanpot, sporting a perfect 9-0 record. With the three wins,  Harvard improves to 14-6 on the season.

The Crimson returns to the strips as it resumes the hunt for the Ancient Eight title. Harvard travels to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Brown, Columbia and Princeton at the Ivy League Championships, Part II.
