Wayne begins his sixth season working with the Harvard
heavyweights. He works primarily with the third and fourth varsity
eights and varsity fours.
Berger has been instrumental in the success of the Crimson rowers
over the last four years. His third varsity eight won the third
varsity eight grand final, while his fourth varsity eight finished
second in the same event at the 2008 EARC Sprints. The third
varsity eight went on to place fourth in the second varsity eight
petite final at the IRA National Championships.
In 2007, the third varsity eight won Sprints and the petite final
at the IRA National Championships. The boat finished second at the
Sprints at both the 2005 and 2006 Sprints. His combination eight
has won three H-Y regattas as well.
Berger also works with the Boston Rowing Club. Under his direction
his boats have been successful at the Independence Day Regatta,
Royal Canadian Henley, US Nationals and the Cromwell Club.
He worked in a variety of roles at the Groton School from
1993-2005, serving as history teacher, dorm supervisor, associate
director for admission and rowing coach.
Berger, a 1988 graduate of Cornell, swam and rowed for the Big
Red. He was a Cornell National Scholar.
