PRINCETON, N.J. – Former Harvard standout Henrik Rummel '09 has been named the 2013 USRowing Male Athlete of the Year, the organization announced. Rummel was selected after a vote cast by the athletes and coaches of the 2013 Senior National team.
Rummel, and Female Athlete of the Year Kate Bertko, will be honored on Nov. 20 at the Golden Oars Awards Dinner in New York City.
Most recently taking home bronze with the men's four at the 2013 World Rowing Championships, Rummel is a six-time national team athlete. A bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, Rummel and the men's four won gold at the world cup in Lucerne.
"Being selected as Male Athlete of the Year is a big honor, especially because it's an award given by my teammates," Rummel said to USRowing. "I'm proud of the progress we made as a team this year, getting two camp boat medals for the men, and I'm very excited for the prospects in the coming years. This is a really fun and competitive group to train with."
