PHILADELPHIA—The Harvard heavyweight crew swept its fourth straight regatta, downing Navy and host Penn in five races and retaining its hold on the Adams Cup, Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River.
The Crimson (5-0) won all five races it competed in Saturday in a light rain and slightly windy conditions. The varsity eight completed the 2,000-meter course in 5:31.5, its fastest time of the season. Navy was second in 5:35.1, and host Penn was third with a time of 5:47.1.
The varsity win marked Harvard's 12th straight in the Adams Cup series and its 49th in 76 total tries and raised the Crimson's dual win streak to 11. Harvard has now had the winning boat in each of the 17 races it has entered this spring.
Harvard took the second varsity eight by nearly a boat length as the Crimson cruised to the finish in 5:36.3. Navy followed in 5:45.0 and Penn was third in 5:46.2. The Crimson did the same in the third varsity eight and the fourth varsity eight races as well.
In the freshman eight, the Crimson finished 5.8 seconds ahead of the Mids and more than 20 seconds in front of the Quakers. The rookies had the third-fastest time on the day, crossing the finish in 5:39.0.
