Men's Basketball Unveils 2013-14 Schedule, Will Host 12 Games at Lavietes Pavilion

The Crimson will be in search of a fourth straight Ivy League title when the season gets underway in November (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's basketball head coach Tommy Amaker has released the team's 2013-14 schedule which features 12 games to be played at Lavietes Pavilion, a contest at TD Garden and the program's first ever trip to Alaska for the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

"We are excited about the schedule we have put together for this coming year," Amaker commented. "Our non-conference schedule will provide us with many opportunities to improve as a team before beginning another competitive Ivy League campaign. We look forward to getting the season underway."

Harvard will be in search of a fourth straight Ivy League title this season and a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson went 20-10 last year, 11-3 in Ancient Eight play, before knocking off third-seeded New Mexico to reach the third round of March Madness. Harvard will also be vying for a fifth straight 20-win season, a feat which has never been accomplished in the Ivy League. The Crimson will face 15 opponents in 2013-14 which it played last year, going 16-5 in those contests with a 6-2 mark in non-conference action.

The 103rd season of Harvard basketball opens Sunday, Nov. 10 against Holy Cross as part of a tripleheader at TD Garden. The event will also feature two other regional rivalries as Boston College takes on UMass, and Northeastern squares off with Boston University.

For the third straight year, the Crimson will host MIT in its home opener Nov. 12 before welcoming Howard (Nov. 15) and Bryant (Nov. 20) to Lavietes Pavilion. Harvard will then embark on a six-game road trip which begins Nov. 24 at Colorado.

The Crimson will travel to Anchorage, Alaska for the 35th annual Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. Harvard will play three games in a three-day span, beginning with a first round matchup against Denver Nov. 28. Other teams who will be at the event include Alaska Anchorage, Green Bay, Indiana State, Pepperdine, TCU and Tulsa.

Harvard will wrap up the road swing back in the city of Boston at Northeastern (Dec. 4) and BU (Dec. 7).

The Crimson returns home to Lavietes Dec. 21 to host Vermont before heading back out on the road for a contest at Fordham Dec. 28. Harvard will then host BC on New Year's Day, marking the first time since 1991 the Eagles have visited Cambridge.

Harvard will play UConn in Storrs, Conn., for the fourth year in a row Jan. 8 and will open Ivy League play Jan. 11 at home versus Dartmouth. A trip to Florida Atlantic on Jan. 21 will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a rematch at Dartmouth (Jan. 25) beginning the 14-game tournament in earnest.

Ancient Eight play continues with a four-game homestand against Princeton (Jan. 31), Penn (Feb. 1), Brown (Feb. 7) and Yale (Feb. 8), Harvard's longest of the season. The homestand will be followed by games at Columbia (Feb. 14), Cornell (Feb. 15), Penn (Feb. 21) and Princeton (Feb. 22).

The final two weeks of the regular season will see Harvard play host to Cornell (Feb. 28) and Columbia (March 1), before finishing at Yale (March 7) and Brown (March 8).
