Smith Takes Home Ivy Player of the Week Award

Kenyatta Smith established a program record with 10 blocks against Penn Feb. 15 (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After helping Harvard sweep Penn and Princeton at home last weekend, sophomore center Kenyatta Smith has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Smith, who hails from Sun Valley, Calif., averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 blocks and 8.0 rebounds per game, as the Crimson defeated Penn, 73-54, Feb. 15, and Princeton, 69-57, Feb. 16. In Friday’s victory over the Quakers, Smith established a new Harvard single-game record with 10 blocks, while the Crimson also set a new team mark with 15 blocks in the contest. Smith shot 8-of-9 from the field, finishing with a career-best 20 points for a double-double. He narrowly missed a triple-double as he grabbed nine rebounds against the Quakers.

On the following evening, Smith was perfect from the field (5-of-5) and from the foul line (4-of-4), tallying 14 points. He added six rejections and seven boards, as Harvard grabbed first place in the Ivy League standings with the win over Princeton.

Smith and Harvard will head on the road this week, visiting Brown and Yale Feb. 22-23. The contest against the Bulldogs will be shown live nationally on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m.
