Men's Basketball Adds Five Newcomers to the Fold for 2012-13 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's basketball team will welcome five student-athletes from the Class of 2016 to the program this fall.  The class, which consists of three guards and two forwards, includes players from  Georgia, Massachusetts and Minnesota, as well as two players from Canada (Ontario and Quebec).

"We are excited to welcome five freshmen to our team and university this fall," said Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker, who is entering his sixth season as head coach of the Crimson. "We look forward to their many contributions on the basketball court, as well as in the Harvard community."

Harvard, which reached the NCAA tournament last season for the first time since 1946, won its second straight Ivy League title, going 12-2 in league play. The Crimson also posted a program-record 26 victories, captured the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament crown and earned the first national ranking in team history, reaching as high as No. 21.

Played 3 years of varsity basketball at Northfield Mount Hermon ... Captain of the varsity basketball team in 2012 ... Led Northfield Mount Hermon to its first NEPSAC AAA league title in 2012 ... Named All-League second team in 2012 ... Also won the Coach's Award in 2012 ... Helped the Northfield Mount Hermon team to be the National Prep School runner up in 2010 ... An academic Honor Roll student in freshman, sophomore, and senior years ... Also enjoys listening to music, video games, and relaxing with friends.

Played three years of varsity basketball at Woodward Academy ... Elected captain of the basketball team in 2012 ... Led Woodward to the 3-AAA State Championship in 2011 and the region semifinals in 2012 ... Nationally ranked by in the 2012 top 150 players ... Also ranked by ESPN as the No. 8 high school basketball recruit in Georgia ... Recipient of the 2012 NAISMITH Flourish Award, given to a student athlete who flourishes in the classroom, on the court, and in the community ... Named the Best Defensive Player for Woodward Academy in 2012 ... Recognized as Athlete of the Month several times in his varsity career ... Participated in track and field at Woodward in the high jump and triple jump ... Received the Spirit Award, given to the student that best exemplifies the character and human spirit of a model student ... Contributed more than 100 hours of community service to the Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club, church outreach basketball ministry, the Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, and Habitat for Humanity ...
