CRAIOVA, Romania - 2009 Harvard graduate Evan Harris has signed a professional contract to play basketball in Romania this winter. Harris, a 2007 All-Ivy League forward, will suit up for CSSU Craiova, in the Romanian first division.
Harris was offered two contracts while working out in Las Vegas, Nev, earlier in the summer and chose CSSU Craiova where he is currently practicing with the team during preseason.
Other American basketball players on Harris' team include Morris Dewayne (San Francisco), O'Darien Bassett (Troy), Sydney Holmes (Southern Indiana) and Jermaine Green (North Texas). The team is coached by Nicolae Paul. Last season, the team was 11-17, finishing in 12th place.
At Harvard, Harris played in 95 career games, starting 61. He scored 757 points despite missing significant time due to an injury as a senior. His most productive season came in 2007-08 when he averaged 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He also collected 83 career blocks and 94 steals.
