Field Hockey's van Herwaarden to Assist Team USA at World League Semi-Finals in London

USA Field Hockey's Preview
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tjerk van Herwaarden, the head coach of the Harvard field hockey team, will be a part of the Team USA coaching staff at the International Hockey Federation's World League Semi-Final in London, England, June 22-30. Van Herwaarden will be an assistant to head coach Craig Parnham, after serving as interim head coach of the national team while Parnham relocated from Great Britain.
Team USA will feature 18 players with a wealth of international experience. Twelve of the athletes are Olympians, with four being two-time Olympians, while three are college student-athletes.
The United States will play in Pool A with Argentina, China and Italy. Pool B features England, Australia, South Africa and Spain. The Red, White and Blue open against 2012 Olympic silver medalist Argentina June 22, before seeing Italy June 23 and Chine June 25. The quarterfinals are June 27, the semifinals will be June 29 and the title game is slated for June 30. Each of the World League Semi-Final games will be streamed live on the FIH's YouTube channel.
The top four teams from the tournament advance to the World League Finals in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina in December.
Van Herwaarden has become a familiar face with USA Field Hockey over the last few years. In addition to assisting Parnham at the FIH's World League Round 2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, March 4-10, van Herwaarden has also coached for the U.S. Men's National Team on multiple occasions. He was on staff for Team USA's silver-medal showing at the Pan American Games in 2009 and traveled to the Olympic qualifying tournament in Auckland, New Zealand in 2008 and the 2007 Pan American Games.
