CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Harvard field hockey program has announced a 2011 schedule featuring three opponents that played in last season's NCAA tournament and nine that finished in the top half of the Division I Ratings Percentage Index.
The 2011 season kicks off Sept. 2 with a visit to Holy Cross, with the home opener against Lafayette following two days later. The schedule features 10 home games at Jordan Field, including one stretch of five in a row and another of four straight late in the regular season.
The Crimson will face 2011 NCAA qualifiers Massachusetts, Stanford and Princeton. Harvard will visit the Minutewomen in Amherst Sept. 4 before hosting the Cardinal Oct. 8 and the Tigers Oct. 22. A Sept. 17 visit to rival Yale marks the beginning of the Ivy League season, and Harvard takes on Penn in its Ivy League home opener Sept. 24.
This year's schedule consists of predominantly weekend games. The lone midweek affair is a crosstown road game against Northeastern on Oct. 10, a Monday afternoon.
Following its game at Yale, the Crimson will make the short trip to Hamden, Conn., to face Quinnipiac for just the second time. The next weekend at home, the Penn game will be followed by a Sunday matchup with Bryant. Harvard takes on Brown and Vermont at Jordan Field Oct. 1-2.
After the five-game homestand and NU game, the Crimson heads to Ithaca, N.Y., to meet Ivy foe Cornell Oct. 15. The four-game stretch against Princeton, Colgate (Oct. 23), Dartmouth (Oct. 29) and New Hampshire (Oct. 30) closes Harvard's home season. The regular-season finale comes Nov. 4 at Columbia.
Harvard will also play a preseason exhibition Aug. 28 against the University of Victoria.
