Steriti, Foote win NEFWA Gold Helmet Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – New Hampshire running back Nico Steriti and Middlebury quarterback McCallum Foote have picked up the New England Football Writers’ Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Awards for the week of Nov. 5.

Steriti, who hails from Toms River, N.J., tallied 19 carries for a game-best 106 yards and two touchdowns to help No. 11 New Hampshire edge William & Mary, 28-25, Saturday. The sophomore’s first scoring run, an 18-yard rush with 5:20 remaining in the first half, gave UNH its first lead of the game, 9-7. His 19-yard run with 4:14 to play put the Wildcats ahead for good, 27-25.

Foote completed threw for 456 yards and five touchdowns as he marshaled Middlebury to a 50-21 victory at Hamilton Saturday. The junior signal caller, who has thrown five touchdown passes in a game four times this season, also registered a four-yard scoring run. Foote established a new program and NESCAC record for touchdown passes in a single season with 27 en route to his third NESCAC Player of the Week nod of the 2012 campaign.
