Harvard's Treavor Scales Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week
PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard senior running back Treavor Scales (Stone Mountain, Ga.) has been named the Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon. Teammate and fellow Georgia native Norman Hayes (Tucker, Ga.) was named to the Honor Roll.
Scales shared this week's award with Dartmouth running back Dominick Pierre. Harvard's back had a big day in the Crimsons season-opening 28-13 win against the defending Pioneer League champion and 2012 league favorite San Diego. Scales rushed 19 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns on the day, averaging 9.1 yards per carry with a 66-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
It marked a career day on the ground for Scales as well as his sixth 100-yard rushing game.
Hayes, a sophomore, had a big day in his first collegiate start at cornerback. He had nine tackles on the day (six solo) and had a game-high five pass breakups. All told, Harvard's defense recorded seven sacks, 11.0 tackles for a loss, 14 pass breakups and 11 QB hurries while limiting the Toreros to just two rushing yards on 24 carries.
Harvard is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 22, when the Crimson opens defense of its Ivy League championship at Brown in a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. The game will be carried live on NBC Sports.
