Pushaun and Bryce Brown Earn Gold Helmet Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Maine running back Pushaun Brown and Western New England quarterback Bryce Brown received the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Awards for week one of the 2011 football season.
The North Brunswick, N.J. native, rushed for 146 yards and two scores during the Black Bears' 28-13 victory over Bryant (0-1) on Saturday at Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium. Brown racked up 57 yards on the opening drive for Maine, finishing the series off with a 1-yard touchdown run putting the Black Bears up 7-0. The senior would strike again during the third quarter punching it in from a yard out capping the team's scoring for game. Brown finished his day with 26 rushing attempts, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
Senior Bryce Brown accounted for all four Western New England touchdowns against Norwich, including a three-yard run to clinch the victory for the Golden Bears in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday. Brown threw for 248 yards and two scores adding 145 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The Guliford, Conn., native completed 17 of 23 passes, connecting on 73 percent of his throws, and averaging 9.9 yards per carry.
