PRINCETON, N.J. - Harvard junior running back
Gino Gordon has been named the Ivy League's Offensive Player of the
Week while freshman running back Treavor Scales has been named the
Ivy League Rookie of the Week in an announcement from the league
office Monday afternoon.
The pair became the first Harvard duo in 10 years to rush for at
least 100 yards each. Both players had their century marks before
the end of the third quarter as Harvard built a big lead. The last
time two backs to collect 100 yards apiece came in 1999 when Chris
Menick (22 rushes for 115) and Chuck Nwokocha (14 rushes for 110
yards) broke out against Cornell
Gordon became the first player on record at Harvard to record
100 rushing and 100 receiving yards in a single game as he tallied
222 total yards and three touchdowns on 12 touches in Harvard's win
over Dartmouth. Gordon, who amassed all of his yardage in three
quarters, rushed for 119 yards on eight attempts (14.9 yards per
carry) and had all three of his scores on the ground (15 yards, 48
and eight yards) while not losing a yard from scrimmage. He also
caught four passes for 103 yards. In all, he averaged 18.3 yards
per touch on the afternoon. Ten of his 12 touches on the day
resulted in either a first down or a
touchdown.
Scales, the only player to win top rookie honors twice this
season, collected a game-high 120 rushing yards and had two
touchdowns while finishing with 131 total yards of offense in the
win. His first score came from 40 yards out and he also bullied his
way in from one yard out as he averaged 6.0 yards per carry without
losing a yard from scrimmage.
Junior QB Collier Winters earned a spot on the Honor Roll after
completing 12 of 15 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown in the
win.
