Harvard senior defensive end Desmond Bryant has signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders in a transaction posting made Monday morning. Bryant joins teammate Chris Pizzotti as a free agent signee. Pizzotti signed with the New York Jets Sunday evening.
This season, the 6 foot 5, 280-pound Bryant earned All-Ivy League status after leading the team with eight QB hurries and finishing with 4.5 tackles for a loss. He recorded four quarterback hurries alone in a win at Lafayette.
Bryant’s rise to an NFL-caliber player started early in his Harvard career. As a sophomore, Bryant made10 solo tackles and nine assisted stops but an astounding 11 of his tackles were behind the line of scrimmage and he ranked second on the team with eight sacks. He recorded a sack in first six games of the season.
