Baseball’s Zavolas Etches Name in Wareham Gatemen History Book

WAREHAM, Mass. – Rising senior Noah Zavolas played his way into the Wareham Gatemen's history books this summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Zavolas recently became the first Gatemen player since 2003 to earn both the Albert Bigelow – Most Valuable Pitcher Award and the Francis Trip – Sportsmanship Award.

 Initially a walk-on preseason player, Zavolas pitched his way to a starting role, totaling 28 innings with a 0.63 ERA, 31 strikeouts, two earned runs and four walks during the regular season. In the 2017 playoffs, the Acton, Mass. native led the Gatemen to a first round 4-3 win over the Falmouth Commodores, pitching six innings, one run, nine strikeouts and zero walks.

 Last season with the Crimson, Zavolas pitched a total of 56.0 innings, including one complete game. Overall, he went 3-6 with a 5.95 ERA, 41 strikeouts and maintained a team best 2.73-to-1 K/BB ratio.
