Does Blodgett Pool offer Locker and Towel
Service? Locker and Towel service are available at
Blodgett Pool, wallet lockers (located at the front desk) and
transient lockers (tall lockers in locker room) are available to
recreational swimmers free of charge (you must bring your own
lock). Overnight lockers can only be purchased in person at the
Harvard Athletic Ticket Office. Towel Service is also available to
all recreational users at Blodgett Pool, HUID card holders have the
option of purchasing online, all others must purchase towel service
at the Harvard Athletic Ticket Office.

Malkin Pool

The Malkin Pool hosts over 30,000 Recreation users a year. This
beautiful facility features two swimming pools to accommodate all
types of users.

Does Malkin Pool offer Locker or Towel

Specialty Swim Classes
Registration: Register for Fall 2009 Specialty
Swimming classes at the Malkin Athletic Center front desk (Date to
be announced). No registrations accepted between 4:00pm and 7:00pm
Monday through Friday. Late registrations will be accepted (after
Date TBA) if space is available. Beginner and Intermediate/Stroke
improvement Classes are limited to 10 swimmers per class. Fitness
Swim Challenge classes are limited to 18 swimmers per class.
Specialty Swim Class
Schedule: Classes will start (Date TBA)
Beginner/Advanced
Beginner- Monday(Section A) and Wednesdays(Section B) from
3:00pm- 3:45pm. Beginner/Advanced Beginner-
Tuesday(Section C) from 1:15pm-2:00pm and Thursday (Section D) from
12:00pm- 12:45pm Intermediate/Stroke
Improvement- Tuesdays (Section A) and Thursdays (Section B)
from 3:00pm-3:45pm. Fitness Swim Challenge-
Tuesdays (Section A) and Thursdays (Section B) from 8:00pm-9:30pm
and Saturdays (Section C) from 12noon-1:30pm.
Course Fees:
Students- $50, Non-students (MAC member)- $65. Cost is per 8 week
session, meeting once weekly. Late registrations will be accepted
after 2/6/09. There will be a $10 late fee applied to any
registration submitted after TBA. All classes meet at the MAC pool.

Scuba
Diving
Learn on Wednesday nights at Harvard's
heated Malkin pool, and be ready for great diving in the tropics
anytime or here in New England this summer. Did you know that
divers come from hundreds of miles away to dive here?
Pool and classroom training (6-lessons), with the major equipment
supplied, including textbook and dive tables, is only $220. Payment
of the $220 may be by cash, term bill, or check. However, you will
need your own mask fins, boots, and snorkel. These will cost
$250-$350. We will give more details on the first day of class.
Plan to join us for a buying trip within a week of the first
class.
100% attendance
is expected for pool and class. But make-ups are possible
Register and begin the course Wednesday (Date TBA) 7:00pm in the
Malkin Athletic Center Conference room . Bring swimsuit and towel
to the first session.
6 lessons (once a week) at the classroom and pool plus 2 days of
ocean training (about $240) to obtain the lifetime, most widely
recognized NAUI or PADI
certification card. Or we can help you arrange for tropical ocean
training. Our ocean training will begin in May.

Swimming
Tests
1. Students, Faculty, Staff and
affiliates that wish to row or sail at any point during their
affiliation with Harvard must successfully complete a swimming
test.
2. The swimming test consists of 100 yards of any stroke except
the backstrokes and must show good forward progress (i.e., swimmers
are not allowed to stop, hang on the lane lines or touch the
bottom) in order to pass.
3. You must be an officer, student or staff with a Harvard ID or
be a Harvard Affiliate with a Harvard Athletic Facility pass to
take the Harvard Swim test.
4. Tests will be given during regular hours of operation until 15
minutes prior to closing time. (You must show the lifeguard your
Harvard id, prior to taking the test.)
5. Lost Cards will not be replaced.

Policies
The lifeguard and monitor
staffs are here to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Please
familiarize yourself with the pool regulations posted in the lobby
and on signs on the pool deck. Some of the major regulations are
listed below:
1. No carriages or strollers are
permitted on the pool deck. Each child under the age of 7 must be
accompanied and directly supervised by an adult at all times while
in the facility (regardless of whether the child is in or out of
the water). One adult must be present per two children under age 7,
and one adult per four children between ages 7 and 18. Adult
Responsibility Forms are available at the monitor's desk and must
be completed by the supervising adult whenever a child enters the
facility. For a complete listing of the rules please refer to the
Child Supervision Policy.
2. Personal flotation devices are NOT
permitted.
3. Kick boards are available on a
first come, first serve basis. Please return them when you are
done.
4. Scuba equipment, including masks
and snorkels, are NOT permitted in the pool. Exceptions will only
be made for those with current medical approval on file with the
Aquatic Director.
5. Diving from starting blocks, diving
boards, and towers is prohibited.
6. Blodgett prohibits swimmers from
using any entrance other than the main doors.
7. Private swimming lessons are
prohibited. Only Harvard Aquatics Staff may give swimming lessons.
8. Blodgett users are not permitted in
closets or storage areas, or to adjust pace clocks.
9. Swimmers must circle swim when
there are more than two people swimming in a lane (staying to the
right). Tap toes to pass.
10. Special activities may necessitate
the change in or cancellation of recreational swim hours. Please
check weekly schedule with monitors desk at 617-495-1789.
LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY ARE
RESPONSIBLE FOR POOL ACTIVITIES AND HAVE AUTHORITY TO SUSPEND POOL
PRIVILEGES. PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLY WITH INSTRUCTIONS OF THE
LIFEGUARDS.

Supervision Policy
FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN, THE HARVARD ATHLETIC
DEPARTMENT MAINTAINS THE FOLLOWING POLICY
REGARDING THE SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN:
1) Adult responsibility Forms are
available at the monitor's desk and must be completed by the
supervising
adult whenever a child enters the facility.
2) No flotation devices of any kind
are allowed for children.
3) Supervising adults must present
their participation passes upon entering the facility.
4) Children without a family ID. must
pay a $10.00 guest fee before entering the facility.
5) Any adult responsible for children
must accompany and directly supervise their children, regardless of
age,
at all times. No more than four children per adult.
6) One adult may supervise no more
than two children under the age of 7. The adult must accompany and
directly supervise the children in the water.
7) No carriages, strollers, or
unsupervised children, regardless of age, are permitted on the pool
deck.
8) Any child over the age of 4 must
use the gender appropriate locker room.
9) Babies must be diapered and wearing
rubber pants in addition to their swimsuit.
Lifeguards on duty are responsible for
pool activity and have authority to suspend pool privileges.
Participants must comply with instructions of the lifeguards.
