Softball Finished Weekend with 3 Wins, Including 10-0 and 11-0 Shutouts

Boiling Springs N.C. - The Harvard Softball team (6-4) wrapped up competition at the Red and Black Softball Tournament hosted by Gardner-Webb with a two shutout wins over Detroit Mercy (10-0) and Sacred Heart (11-0), a 5-2 win over UT Chattanooga and a loss to Gardner-Webb. 

Harvard vs. Detroit Mercy: How it Happened

The Crimson took the lead from the start, scoring for the first time in the first inning. Harvard scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Megan Welsh.

The Crimson then tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fourth when they scored four times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run off the bat of junior Allison O'Heany.

Harvard vs. Detroit Mercy: Game Highlights

Katie Arrambide (1-0) started and picked up the win for Harvard (1-0), going 3.1 shutout innings while giving up one hit, walking none, and striking out five. Lindsay Poulos was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going 1.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking none and striking out three.
• Welsh led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with three RBI. Allison Heffley provided a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Kaitlin Lampson also helped out, going 1-for-3 for Harvard with a double and an RBI.
• Arrambide and Poulos combined to throw a three-hit shutout while Arrambide struck out five Titans hitters.
• The Crimson power output was led by Heffley, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed four runs across.
• The Crimson out-hit the Titans at a 10-3 clip. 
• Harvard went 7-for-15 (.467) with runners in scoring position.
• The Crimson drew four walks from Detroit Mercy pitching.

Harvard vs. Gardner-Webb: Game Highlights

Trailing 2-0, the Crimson first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Harvard got an RBI single from junior Madi Mays, scoring junior Lauren Bobowski from second base.

The Crimson kept the Runnin' Bulldogs off the board before tying it up in the fifth. Harvard pushed across a run on Bobowski's two-out RBI double, which brought the score level at 2-2. Gardner-Webb then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 3-2 win.

Harvard vs. Gardner-Webb: Game Highlights

• First-year Riley Flynn dominated on Saturday, punching out eight Gardner-Webb hitters over 6.1 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Harvard Crimson fell to the Runnin' Bulldogs 3-2.
• In addition to her eight strikeouts, Flynn threw 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits and walking four for Harvard.
• At the plate, the Crimson were paced by Bobowski, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Mays put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Teagan Shaw also helped out for Harvard, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
• Harvard went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.

Harvard vs. Chattanooga: How it Happened

Trailing 2-0, the Crimson first put runs on the board in the third inning. Harvard's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Shaw.

The Lady Mocs failed to push any runs across before the Crimson built on their lead in the fifth inning. Harvard scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Heffley, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Crimson. The score remained 5-2 for the rest of the game, as Harvard held on for the win.

Harvard vs. Chattanooga: Game Highlights

• Poulos (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for the Crimson. The right-hander went three shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Flynn also made an impact in the circle for the Crimson, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
• In the batter's box, the Crimson were led by Shaw, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Heffley put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Savannah Fitzpatrick also chipped in for Harvard, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed four runs across.
• The Crimson out-hit the Lady Mocs at a 10-8 clip.
• The Crimson drew five walks from Chattanooga pitching.

Harvard vs. Sacred Heart: How it Happened

The Crimson took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Harvard scored twice, with one run coming across on Heffley's single.

The Crimson then tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run single off the bat of Lampson.

Harvard vs. Sacred Heart: Game Highlights

• Flynn was dealing on Sunday, hurling a two-hit shutout to lead the Harvard Crimson over the Sacred Heart Pioneers 11-0. Flynn (2-0) went the distance for Harvard (6-4), giving up two hits, walking four and striking out nine.
• Heffley led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Lampson put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Junior Allison O'Heany also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Harvard with a walk and an RBI.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed five runs across.
• The Crimson out-hit the Pioneers at a 9-2 clip.
• The Crimson got three hits in six at-bats with the bases loaded.
• The Crimson drew five walks from Sacred Heart pitching.
