PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior
Will Jacobsen tallied four hits and three RBIs at the plate before recording the final six outs as a pitcher for the win as Harvard University baseball outlasted Princeton University in 12 innings, 14-10, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Clarke Field.
After the Crimson (16-17, 7-7 Ivy) opened the game with an 8-0 lead, the Tigers (6-26, 3-12 Ivy) came back to take a 10-8 edge before Harvard rallied with two runs in the eighth and four runs in the 12
th to capture the series. The Crimson took the set after winning game one on Saturday, 2-0.
Jacobsen finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBIs while allowing no runs and no hits over the 11
th and 12
th innings as a pitcher. Sophomore
Jake Berger totaled four RBIs, three runs, and two hits, while hitting his seventh home run of the season – including his fifth homer since Apr. 16.
For the series, Jacobsen hit .462 (6-for-13) with four RBIs while throwing 5.0 innings without allowing a run. Berger tallied a .308 average with five RBIs, two home runs, and six runs scored. Sophomore right-hander
Jay Driver threw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, including 3.2 innings from the seventh through the 10
th in Sunday's game three.
Harvard took a 4-0 lead to begin the series finale behind a sacrifice fly from junior
Logan Bravo in the first and a three-run homer from Berger in the third. The Crimson doubled the edge to 8-0 with four runs in the top of the fifth behind an RBI single from Jacobsen, a two-run double from first-year
Sean Matson, and an RBI double from first-year
Sawyer Feller. The Tigers worked their way back into the game plating one run in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and seven runs in the seventh to move ahead 10-8.
The Crimson responded in the top of the eighth as Bravo lifted a ball that brought in two runs, tying the score at 10-10. After Driver worked scoreless frames in the bottom of the eighth, ninth, and 10
th, Jacobsen came on to record three outs in the 11
th. Harvard then plated four runs in the 12
th with a run on a bunt from Baldwin, another run on a single from Berger, and a two-run single from Jacobsen, who then closed the game with three outs in the last of the 12
th.

- Junior third baseman and right-handed pitcher Will Jacobsen made contributions both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, two walks and a run scored while on the mound, he hurled 2.0 scoreless innings in the win, recording the final six outs, while giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
- Jacobsen extended his hit streak to nine games and posted his 13th multi-hit and fourth multi-RBI game of the year. He tallied the Crimson's first four-hit game of 2022.
- Sophomore shortstop Jake Berger totaled two hits, four RBIs, three runs scored, and a home run. He hit his seventh home run of the season and his fifth homer since Apr. 16. He reached base safely for the 28th straight game, moved his hit streak to eight games, and compiled his 10th multi-hit and seventh multi-RBI game of the season.
- Junior second baseman Hunter Baldwin finished 2-for-4 with four runs scored, three walks, and an RBI. He notched his fifth multi-hit game of the year.
- First-year designated hitter Sean Matson finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a double, and a run scored. He registered his first multi-hit game and first multi-RBI game of the year.
- Junior first baseman Logan Bravo posted three RBIs for his eighth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Sophomore outfielder Ben Rounds scored three runs, worked two walks, and absorbed two hit by pitches alongside a hit.
- First-year catcher Sawyer Feller notched an RBI double, and sophomore outfielder Peter Messervy tallied a double and a run.
- Sophomore right-hander Jay Driver tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits and one walk against six strikeouts. He recorded the final eight outs prior to extra innings and the first three outs of the bonus frames.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Jaren Zinn threw 4.0 scoreless innings in the start, permitting four hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

- Harvard played its second extra-inning game of 2022, moving to 1-1 in extra-inning contests. The Crimson fell at UCLA, 3-2, in 11 innings on Mar. 20.
- The Crimson improved to 150-127-2 all-time vs. Princeton.
