Fred’s leadership of the Friends of Harvard Golf is one of the many ways Fred has been a “Friend” to Harvard athletics. As an undergraduate, Fred co-captained the Harvard Basketball team and has recently joined the Friends of Basketball Board. His energy and leadership have helped basketball with their fundraising efforts as well.
It is with pleasure that we award the HRFWA Friend of the Year to Fred. A formal presentation will be made on September 23 at the Harvard-Brown Football pregame reception and a donation of $500 will be made to Friends of Harvard Golf from HRFWA in honor of Fred’s contributions.
Golf's Fred Schernecker'90 Named HRFWA Friend of the Year
The Harvard Radcliffe Foundation for Women's Athletics is pleased to announce that Fred Schernecker ‘90 is the recipient of the 2011 HRFWA Friend of the Year Award.
Fred is the Director of Men’s and Women’s Golf at
Harvard and has served in this role since 2003. Fred frequently
communicates with alumni/ae, Friends and parents through his weekly
recaps and this has lead to an incredibly strong Friends effort. He
has spearheaded Friends of Harvard Golf and last year this group
raised $116,000 from 102 donors. Additionally, Friends of
Golf has had some of the highest participation levels from its
women alums and last year 56% of the women alums donated to the
Golf program.
