Matt Whalen joined the Harvard Athletics staff prior to the start of the 2010-11 season and handles the athletic training needs of the fencing, field hockey and wrestling teams.
Whalen came to Harvard following a five-year stint as an assistant athletic trainer at Babson. He has also served since 2008 as an adjunct professor in the Department of Sports Science at Lasell College, where he was an approved clinical instructor.
Before moving on to Babson, Whalen served as a resident assistant athletic trainer at Boston College and an athletic trainer/therapy aid at South Shore Sports Therapy in Quincy, Mass.
Whalen earned a master's degree in health promotion and exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education, with a concentration in athletic training, from Bridgewater State College in 2004.
