Malkin Athletic Center Emergency Action Plan

Athletic facilities in the MAC:

o Athletic training room - located on the third floor, enter the main entrance, turn right walk up the stairs to the third floor turn left, second door on left.

o Wrestling room - located on the third floor, enter the main entrance, turn right walk up the stairs to the third floor turn left, turn left at first hallway (just past athletic training room) straight ahead through first door.

o Gymnasium - located on the fourth floor, enter the main entrance, turn right walk up the stairs to the fourth floor turn left, enter through double doors.

o Elevator - located on the north side of the building. Elevator is used for handicapped individuals or for emergency use only.

Emergency Personnel: At least one coach will be present for practices and competitions. Certified athletic trainer and athletic trainer students(s) may be in the athletic training room or on site for practice and games.

Emergency Communication: Certified athletic trainer will have a cellular phone. The athletic training room has a land line (617) 496-3465. The main entrance desk's phone number is 617-495-2219. An emergency phone is located on the fourth floor outside the gymnasium next to the elevator. This phone connects you to HUPD.

Emergency Equipment: Supplies (athletic training kit); additional supplies may be available in the athletic training room. AED's are located in athletic training room, the front desk and on the fourth floor outside the gymnasium next to the elevator.

Role of First Responder:

  1. Immediate care of the injured athlete.
  2. Emergency equipment retrieval.
  3. Activation of EMS:
    1. Call Professional Ambulance (617) 492-2700.
    2. Caller will provide pertinent information name and location of inured athlete, what happened, how many people have been injured, nature of the injury, what aid is being provided, cell phone number) to EMS.
    3. Call Harvard Campus Police (617) 495-1212 to inform them that you just called the ambulance.
    4. During the building's operational hours, call front desk to alert them that EMS is coming and have them direct them to the area upon arrival.
    5. Outside of building operational hours, send someone to front doors to lead EMS personnel to the area.
    6. Designate an individual to limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area.

Directions to facility:

JFK Street, north from Charles River, to right onto South Street. MAC is through first stop sign on the left (elevator entrance). OR

Mt. Auburn Street to Holyoke St. and south on Holyoke (toward Charles River). Front doors on your right.
